Brazilian citizens who wish to reside legally in Argentina have a privileged route: the MERCOSUR Residency Agreement considered together with the Law No. 26,240. This regional instrument, in force since 2009, establishes a simplified process for nationals of the bloc's member and associated countries, while Law No. 26,240 creates the mechanism for Brazilian citizens residing in Argentina to transform their legal residency into "Permanent" residency, regardless of their previous length of residence in the country.
The Mercosur route does not require proof of employment, income, or family ties. Nationality is the central requirement.
